How Electroplating Works
The definition of Electroplating
When electroplating, the coating or other insoluble as positive pole, the metal to be
electroplated as negative pole, the positive ion of metal coating become electroplating
coating. in order to exclude the disturbance of other positive ion and even , strong
coating, it need electroplate liquid with metal cation to keep the concentration of
metal cation.
The purpose of electroplating is to electroplate metal coating on base material to
change the surface propertyof base material . Electroplating can strengthen metal
corrosion resistance, hardness, abrasive resistance, electrical conductivity, unctuosity,
heat resistance and good surface.
The factor of electroplating
1. Ngative pole: the part need to be plated
2. Positive pole: if it is soluble positive pole, it is metallic coating. If it is insoluble
positive pole, it is mostly precious metal (platinum; iridium oxide)
3. Electroplating liquid: the electroplating with metal ion.
4. Eectroplating tank: the tank can store electroplating liquid. The strength,
anti-corrosion, temperature resistance will be considered.
5. Rctifier: the equipment provide direct-current main.
The base working procedure of electroplating
Polishing—hanging – degreasing—washing— ectrochemical polishing or chemical
polishing —acid pickling—preplating—electroplating— washing—postprocessing
— washing —drying—taking down— inspecting and packing
The purpose of electroplating
1. copper plating : use as base material to improve adhesive ability of coating
and anti- corrosion.
2. nickel plating:use as base material or as appearance to improve anti-corrosion
and abrasive resistance.
3. gold plating : to improve conductive contact resistance and improve
signal transmission.
4. palladium plating : to improve conductive contact resistance and improve
signal transmission.
5. tinplating: to improve welding capability.
