The Introduction of CNC Plastic Material
In the CNC prototype industry, the CNC plastic prototypes are made by
plastic materials including ABS, PC, PMMA and some not commonly
used PA. POM. The characteristic of CNC plastic materials are introduced
as the following.
ABS: ABS is a kind of new material in CNC prototype industry. Its full
name is acrylonitrile, butadiene styrenics copolymers, which is the maximum
production and the most common used polymer. It unify the properties of PS,
SAN,BS, which is of the good mechanical property of toughness, hardness
and firmness. Its main characteristic includes excellent impact strength, good
stability of size, dyeability, good molding processing and machining, good
mechanical strength, high-stiffness, low moisture uptake, good corrosion
resistance, simple connection, avirulent insipidity, excellent chemical properties
and electrical insulation performance. In the high temperature, ABS endure
and isn’t out of shape, in the low temperature, it is of high impact toughness.
It is also a tough , not easy to be scratched material.
Manufacturing temperature : from-50 degree centigrade to + 70 degree centigrade.
PC: The major components of PC is polycarbonate, which is a high quality
material made by CO-EXTRUSION. Its surface covers absorbent of high
concentrations of ultraviolet with long resistance and fast colour.
Its major characteristics of PC as following:
(1) Transparency: The transmittance of PC reach 89%, which can be
compared with glass. The UV layer prototype wouldn’t produce yellowing ,
atomization, poor transmittance under sun. Ten years later, transparency
only runs off 6%, the PVC runs off 15%--20%, fiberglass runs off 12%-20%.
(2) Resistance: The impact strength is 250-300 times of common glass,
2-20 timesof tempered glass.
(3) Ultraviolet-proof : One side of PC prototype plate with UV proof and
another is of condensation- resistance.
(4) Light weight: its weight is only the half weight of glass. It reduce
the cost of transportation, unloading, installation and braced frame.
(5) Flame retardant : National standard GB50222—95 have confirmed
that PC is first fire-retardant, that is B1 level.
PMMA: Its English name is acrylic, whose chemical name is
polymethylmethacrylate. It is an important thermoplastic plastic, which is
of good transparency, chemical stability and weather resistance. It is
also easy to paint, to process.
Its major characteristics as following:
(1) Its transparency likes crystal and light transmittance higher than 92%.
(2) PMMA is of excellent weather resistance, higher surface hardness
and lustrous surface, and good high temperature performance.
(3) PMMA have good machinability. It can not only adopt thermal forming,
but also machining.
(4) The abrasive resistance of PMMA is closed to aluminium material.
(5) PMMA have good printability and sprayability, which can adopt
suitable printing and painting.
(6) Flame resistance: It belong to inflammable material but non hypergol.
