The difference between the prototype model and mass production

In general, the prototype is different with the mass production in below three basic aspects:
1.Material
The production raw materials may need high capital costs.Instead, the engineer or prototype 
design experts will attempt to replace analog expected final material performance and material.
2.Procedure
Generally need expensive and time-consuming to make an unique tooling and custom design. 
Prototype tends to compromise, through the multivariate process, repeat or control method to test
unqualified, inefficient, or substandard technology sources; or test the deficiency of the  technology
maturity.
3.Reduce the fidelity.
The final production design often requires extensive efforts to capture the mass manufacturing 
details. These details are generally unwarranted prototype, for example,some detailed design 
can be expected. From prototype to final production intent often use statistical process control 
and strict test, use very limited technical details .
