The Anodization of Aluminum Prototype
Anodization and spraying painting is very common surface treatment process of prototype manufacturing. Spraying painting is a layer of paint which spray on prototype surface. Customers need to provide PMS number and Leecheer can spray same color which customers want. However, anodization is that put aluminium into anodized liquor and corrode the surface of aluminium and to make it have anodization reaction. Although both anodization and spraying painting are used for protecting surface of aluminium., they have many differences.
1. For different materials, spraying painting can be applied to many materials--metal, plastic and resin. But anodization can only be applied to aluminium.
2. The different durability of protection layer, spraying painting is a painting layer which will fall off as time goes on. Anodization is a layer of oxidation film on surface of aluminum. Alumina is a kind stable and difficlut to fall off. And the oxidazed layer is metallic, which is elegant. Spraying painting cannot present that kind of effect.
Generally, stainless steel and copper ,brass can not be anodized. Only aluminum can be anodized, but different series’ aluminum have different anodized effect. The anodized effect of aluminum 7075 is not good because it contains copper. And the aluminum with 5 series and 6 series can be anodized. But the best anodized effect is aluminum 6061-T6.
Before anodized process, aluminum prototype need to sand blast. If not, it will affect the aesthetic of aluminium prototype. If you want the aluminum prototype with gloss effect, you need to high polish the surface.
After anodized process, there is a layer of alumina on surface and it will not affect with air and keep the color in a long time. Therefore, the purpose of the anodized process on aluminum is that protect the surface away from corrosion and enhance the beautiful apparance of prototype.
